Meet the Iris Wings Team
Dr. Iris Kerin Orbuch
Dr. Iris Kerin Orbuch is a fellowship-trained endometriosis excision surgeon, founder of Iris Wings Sanctuary for Endometriosis Surgery & Wellness, author of the best-selling book Beating Endo – How to Reclaim Your Life from Endometriosis, and a featured subject in Below the Belt—a powerful documentary on endometriosis executively produced by Hillary Rodham Clinton. She is widely recognized as a compassionate leader in the fight for awareness, access, and expert care for those suffering from this misunderstood disease.
Dr. Orbuch trained under pioneering surgeon Dr. C.Y. Liu, whose work helped shape the gold standard for surgical excision of endometriosis. She approaches treatment with a deep understanding of endometriosis as an inflammatory condition and believes in combining the best of Eastern and Western medicine to support long-term healing.
At Iris Wings, she partners closely with pelvic floor physical therapists, nutritionists, acupuncturists, pain psychologists, and integrative medicine practitioners to deliver personalized, whole-person care—especially for teens and adolescents, one of her true passions.
Her advocacy and clinical work have been featured in Forbes, The Washington Post, Marie Claire, and more. She currently serves on the Endometriosis Working Group for the Society for Women’s Health Research in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Rayan Elkattah
Dr. Rayan Elkattah (referred to as “Dr. E”) is a board-certified OB/GYN and fellowship-trained minimally invasive surgeon who specializes in excision of endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, fibroids, and complex gynecologic conditions. He joins Iris Wings Sanctuary alongside Dr. Iris Kerin Orbuch with a shared commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care for those navigating endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain. His practice focuses on advanced minimally invasive surgery with a whole-body, multidisciplinary approach to healing and long-term wellness.
Dr. E completed his advanced minimally invasive fellowship training. He has performed more than 3,000 surgeries specializing in endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic pain, and complex gynecologic conditions. His surgical expertise, combined with his calm and compassionate bedside manner, has made him one of the most trusted and respected practitioners in the women’s health and endometriosis space.
Prior to joining Iris Wings Sanctuary, Dr. E served as Assistant Professor of OB/GYN at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where he trained residents and future surgeons while also leading research and innovation in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. He is the recipient of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for Humanism in Medicine and ACOG’s National Faculty Award, honors recognizing not only his excellence in medicine and education, but also his extraordinary dedication to compassionate patient care.
Dr. E is renowned for providing deeply empathetic and personalized care that leaves a lasting impact on every patient he treats. Patients consistently praise his ability to listen deeply, validate their experiences, and create a safe environment where they feel heard, understood, and supported. For many patients who have spent years searching for answers to their pain and symptoms, Dr. E takes time to look beyond the surface and evaluate every aspect of their health picture with sensitivity, patience, and clarity. He carefully explains diagnoses, procedures, and treatment plans in a way that empowers patients to feel informed and confident in their care journey.
At Iris Wings Sanctuary, Dr. E believes endometriosis care should never be one-dimensional. Understanding that endometriosis is a systemic inflammatory disease that often exists alongside other complex conditions, he incorporates a multidisciplinary, trauma-informed, and holistic approach into every patient’s treatment plan. He regularly collaborates with integrative nutritionists, pelvic floor physical therapists, pain psychologists, gastroenterologists, acupuncturists, naturopaths, integrative medicine physicians, somatic therapists, and other specialists.
Dr. E also understands the importance of emotional support throughout the healing process and welcomes patients to bring loved ones to appointments so they can feel informed and involved every step of the way. From the initial consultation through surgery and post-operative recovery, he remains committed to walking alongside his patients with warmth, kindness, and unwavering support. He is so much more than a surgeon. He delivers a true concierge experience — guiding each patient with personalized attention from their initial consultation through surgery and into post-operative recovery. His mission is not only to provide exceptional surgical care, but to help patients reclaim their quality of life and experience true healing physically, emotionally, and mentally through the compassionate sanctuary model at Iris Wings Sanctuary.
